Aftercare
Do’s:
Keep the bandage on for 4-24 hours. Do not re-wrap the tattoo.
If your tattoo is quite swollen immediately after the appointment, you can place an ice pack on top while the bandage is still on to help.
Once you take the bandage off with clean hands, wash it with unscented soap as much as needed for the first ~3 days. I wash mine 3-4 times per day depending on the size and complexity. The goal is to keep the plasma off of the tattoo, which will reduce the chance of scabbing and therefore scarring.
After ~4 days, if the tattoo feels really tight or itchy, you can apply a little bit of unscented lotion to the area. Less is more.
If you experience any rash or infection on or around the tattoo, contact your artist and a doctor.
Don'ts:
Do not submerge the tattoo in any body of water (shower is okay). This includes tubs, lakes, swimming pools, etc. There is a very high chance your tattoo will become infected if you do.
Do not expose your fresh tattoo to direct sunlight while it is healing. Once your tattoo is healed, protect it for life with sunscreen.
Do not pick or scratch at scabs. If a scab comes off prematurely, it can take ink out with it and leave permanent scars.
